1.foldable design means nothing for me if it were a problem I'd never have purchased a gameboy, gameboy pocket, gameboy color, gameboy micro, gameboy advance, or psp.

2.better button layout design? the button layout of the 2ds is almost exactly the same as the 3ds don't talk about design when you've not even held the 2ds.

3.Bigger screen is the only legitimate point but its a portable so I'm not looking for a huge screen unless I can get one.WilliamRLBaker

The only good thing about this is the stick placement. Why is it so hard for Nintendo to come up with a cool, sleek design.

That's my concern as well. I can understand them wanting to tell parents "Hey, this does not use 3D, so you do not have to worry about your kid's eyes, or them getting sick as a result," but on other hand, I can see this now causing a lot of potential confusion in the marketplace with parents. I mean, look at all the confusion the Wii U name has caused. I could see similar problems here. Parents who may not understand this is not a new system, and parents who will not understand this still plays 3DS games, even though it's called the 2DS.

Really, what it tells me is Nintendo should have just left the 3D name/tech off from the start.

They should've kept a normal 3DS design, but just throw away the 3D.

Not bad at all actually. If anything it seems better than the original model in some ways even (slightly longer battery life, bigger SD card than original model, cheapest model). Of course it lacks 3D and folding, but honestly I could probably live without either,

of course the XL model is still clearly the best model to have.

No kidding. The 2DS willl never get as many chicks as my 3DS XL does whenever I break it out in public.

i think they are testing the waters for a design change on their next handheld.

No kidding. The 2DS willl never get as many chicks as my 3DS XL does whenever I break it out in public.

i've noticed each of the big three have made some really hairbrained decisions over the last couple of years.

nintendo with the wii-u and this 2ds.

sony with the vita and move.

microsoft with the DRM debacle.

no one seems immune to these uneducated stumbles/decisions.

Like the idea, hate the design and execution. No 3D, One Screen, Beefy Hardware, come on Nintendo give me what I want. Slightly tempted to get this only because the XL costs so bloody much here in Australia.

As if Nintendo could afford to confuse people even more now they do it again. You just know the less informed are gonna label this as an improved DS or be confused between this and 3DS wondering if it's the same system or not. This is so freakin silly, I simply don't get it and it looks ugly too.

I just don't see my self doing that even if it was form factor like the regular ds.. I already have my keys, wallet and a smart phone in my pockets.. I do not need to be carrying another gizmo in my pants..

I know it's not a new system it just sounds bizarre.

Why not just drop the XL price to $179 and regular 3DS to 139 and not even bother with this atrocity aswell as needlessly confusing people.laus_basic

So, with the 2DS, this means Nintendo now has 5 different handheld SKUs available at retail:

1. DSi 

2. DSi XL

3 3DS (original)

4 3DS XL

5. 2DS

I'll be surprised if one or more of these SKUs is not discontinued in the next few months. Otherwise, that seems like a lot SKUs to be floating around the same time.

If I had to guess, the 3DS is probably already being sold at/near cost.

Also, the idea of the 2DS is to attact parents who are affraid of 3D. 

Why would you buy one when you can just turn the 3D off.
